5 / 5 Stars

A most entertaining and fun book to read. Considering it was written in 1905 the language, thoughts and ideas are very modern. A most charming thief, a gentleman-burglar.

The quirk is that each of these stories has a twist. And not only does Lupin escape, does Lupin successfully steal, but actually something always unexpected happens. The reader wants more, even as we sympathise with Inspector Ganimard, or even our own Sherlock Holmes!

The four stories included here are

  • The Arrest of Arsène Lupin
  • The Escape of Arsène Lupin
  • The Queen’s Necklace
  • Sherlock Holmes Arrives Too Late

They are such fun I recommend reading the full collection at once. A worthy pre-cursor to Maigret!!!
