An interesting view of the crusades from those that took part in it. Relying on close personal accounts from that time – the author uses quotation to tell the story of the journey.
Perhaps lacking the narrative thrust of the Runciman Crusade trilogy it nevertheless shines a new viewpoint on the trials of the first crusaders and how they founded the Kingdom of Jerusalem and other Crusader States (see below).
