Fantastic, fast-moving fantasy adventure story, set in this world and 2 others – like it but different. The second in a trilogy, it reads easily and the plot flows freely.
Balloonists, witches, Oxford gardens and Siberian tundra make up a cornucopia of ideas and plot devices.
Missing children, laboratories and the end of the known world.
This reads like C.S.Lewis at his best, ambitious concepts on a grand scale but seen through a child’s eyes. Perhaps this book is even better than The Amber Spyglass.
